Definition of Plagiarism

Plagiarism is defined as the practice of taking someone else's work, ideas, or expressions and presenting them as one's own without proper attribution. This includes, but is not limited to:

• Direct copying of text, figures, tables, or data without quotation marks and proper citation
• Paraphrasing others' work without appropriate attribution
• Self-plagiarism or duplicate publication of one's own previously published work
• Ghost writing or hiring others to write manuscripts
• Mosaic plagiarism or patch writing that combines multiple sources without proper citation
• Image or data plagiarism without appropriate permissions and citations

Plagiarism Detection Process

All manuscripts submitted to NJET undergo comprehensive plagiarism screening using advanced plagiarism detection software, including but not limited to Turnitin, iThenticate, and other industry-standard tools.

Consequences of Plagiarism

Authors found guilty of plagiarism will face the following consequences based on the severity of the misconduct:

Minor Infractions (Inadvertent Plagiarism)

• Author education and guidance on proper citation practices
• Requirement to revise and resubmit the manuscript
• Warning letter to the author

Major Infractions (Intentional Plagiarism)

• Immediate rejection of the manuscript
• Ban from submitting to NJET for a period of 2-5 years
• Notification to the author's institution
• Retraction of published articles if plagiarism is discovered post-publication
• Public announcement of retraction with reasons

Self-Plagiarism Policy

Authors must not submit manuscripts that substantially duplicate their own previously published work. Acceptable levels of overlap include:

• Brief descriptions of methodology previously published by the authors
• Standard background information common to the field
• Properly cited and attributed previous work by the same authors

Prevention Guidelines

To avoid plagiarism, authors should:

• Properly cite all sources using the journal's citation style
• Use quotation marks for direct quotes
• Paraphrase effectively while providing appropriate attribution
• Obtain necessary permissions for reproducing copyrighted materials
• Maintain detailed records of sources during research
• Use reference management tools to ensure accurate citations

Appeals Process

Authors who believe they have been wrongly accused of plagiarism may appeal the decision by submitting a detailed written explanation to the Editor-in-Chief within 30 days of notification. The appeal will be reviewed by an independent panel of editorial board members.
